Below is a sample chapter from Turkish Fairy Tales, Magical Crow.

Bir ülkede bir adam var. Adam onun oğlu ile birlikte yaşıyor. Adam bir kuşçu, yani onun işi kuş yakalamak. O her gün ormana gidiyor ve bütün gün orada kuş yakalıyor. Sonra pazara gidiyor ve orada kuşları satıyor.

Bir gün adam çok hasta oluyor ve ölüyor. Onun oğlu yalnız kalıyor. Çocuğun bir işi yok, ayrıca onun babası gibi kuş yakalamayı bilmiyor.

Bir gün çocuk evde bir kafes buluyor. Sonra onu alıyor ve ormana gidiyor. Kuş yakalamak için bir tuzak yapıyor. Orada bekliyor, bekliyor…

Bir süre sonra bir karga geliyor. Karga kafesi görmüyor ve içeri giriyor. Çocuk hemen ağaca çıkıyor ve kargayı yakalıyor.

Zavallı karga ağlıyor ve şöyle diyor:

— Lütfen, beni bırak. Ben gitmek istiyorum. Ben senin için değerli değilim. Ben sana daha değerli bir şey vermek istiyorum.

O çok iyi kalpli bir çocuk, bu yüzden kargayı bırakıyor. Karga mutlu bir şekilde uçuyor ve gidiyor. Çocuk tekrar bir tuzak yapıyor ve bekliyor.

• The instructor and the student do the comprehension exercise together (Speaking).
• The student writes the text with his own words and the instructor corrects it in class or outside the class (Writing).

As you see taking a reading class is not only good for reading and conversation, but also vocabulary, listening, pronunciation and writing.
